MICHAEL HOPPEN
Michael Hoppen Gallery
London, 2023, etracts from ‘Daniele Tamagni Style Is Life’ book
I met Daniele Tamagni in the spring of 2009... That day I met Willy Covary, Charlereux Abbott, Eric Massakampa, Lalhande and many others whilst looking through his colourful and outrageous photographs of these brilliant gentlemen – meeting them through Daniele’s extraordinary eye was a privilege and also a lot of fun. It was something so different and so appealing. Some of them also appeared at our opening, which made the event so memorable... Daniele had discovered a way to be invisible and at the same time strong enough to direct their performance and attention into his lens, where he was able to capture that sublime moment when life and art combine to create timeless imagery. His pictures today are as joyous and as powerful as they were that day I first saw them in 2009. His seminal book, Gentlemen of Bacongo, would go on to be one of the most celebrated books of the year and his name was on everyone’s lips from Arles to almost every photo event in Europe and Africa…..And to show it was not just luck, Daniele went on to prove his undeniable talent by making a further project with the Flying Cholitas. An other brilliant example of original photography about a subject few were aware of until his project was unveiled. life was cut all too short by his ill-ness and the world of photography lost a true innovator and a true gentleman. May his colourful and unique imagery continue to delight and entertain all those who see them.

LORING KNOBLAUCH
Excerpted from Collector Daily
New York, 2011
A two-part show, with colour photographs by Daniele Tamagni in the main  Danziger gallery space and a group show entitled Africolor in the back room. The Tamagni exhibit consists of twelve c-prints framed in white and matted, from 2008. The Africolor exhibit consists of twenty-four works from seven  different photographers [Samuel Fosso, Martin Parr, Malick Sidibé, Mickalene Thomas, Ruud van Empel, Lolo Veleko and Tamagni].This smart combination of Italian photo-journalist Daniele Tamagni’s images of dapper Congolese men and a supporting exhibit of colour-driven African photography (loosely defined) gets my vote for the best summer groups show of photography in New York this year. … It’s fresh, brash and lively, with a snappysense of style….

the Archive
The Daniele Tamagni Archive contains over 900 photographs made by Daniele over the years, featuring both internationally renowned and unpublished pieces, presented to the public for the first time. Each piece is accompanied by a brief description of the context and, where available, the people portrayed in them, in order to provide additional information for researchers interested in gaining insight into the relationships amongst the subjects and their social context.
